Local 139 Golf Outing raises over $9,000 for WI Veteran Program
PEWAUKEE, Wis. – As part of a firm resolve to improve the lives of those who sacrificed for our nation, Operating Engineers Local 139 is proud to announce it is assisting wounded military veterans by helping them purchase motorcycles so they can benefit from what biking enthusiasts refer to as “wind therapy.”
Local 139 President/Business Manager Terry McGowan said, “More and more, this therapy is being recognized as a way to lessen the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Syndrome, which unfortunately affects too many of our returning service people. A lot of enjoyment and solace and a feeling of freedom comes from having the wind in your face as you ride. And, of course, there’s the camaraderie, friendship and support the vets get when riding with others.”
Through its Fifth Annual Golf Outing held June 17 at the Waushara Country Club in Wautoma, Local 139 raised $9,365 that was donated to the Wisconsin branch of the national organization, Hogs for Heroes. The organization helps veterans who ride motorcycles and are struggling with personal hardships. The donation to Hogs for Heroes represents a nearly 25 percent increase from the amount raised for the group during the 2016 golf outing.
Local 139 thanks the many sponsors of the golf outing as well as the participants, without whose involvement the helping hand to veterans could not have been extended.
